Main Light East proudly provided a full lighting and atmospheric package for BalletX’s world premiere of “Maslow’s Peak” at The Mann Center. Choreographed by Jennifer Archibald and inspired by William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, the full‑length ballet explored themes of human nature, survival, and the struggle for order amid chaos, brought vividly to life against the open‑air backdrop of Philadelphia’s iconic venue.
Creative Team: Choreography: Jennifer Archibald • Scenic & Projection Design: Guy de Lancey • Costume Design: Emily Morgan • Set Production: Proof Productions • Dramaturg: Kate Mattingly
Show Highlights
“Maslow’s Peak” featured an inventive set with aerial rigging for acrobatics, dynamic movement sequences, and shifting emotional tones that demanded equally versatile lighting. Lighting Designer Drew Billiau collaborated closely with our East team to create looks that matched each chapter’s mood, ensuring smooth transitions under open‑air conditions.
Equipment Package
To achieve this spectrum of effects, rain or shine, Main Light East deployed:
- Robe i‑FORTE LTX fixtures for powerful, IP65‑rated spot and beam effects
- Robe Spiiders for crisp pixel‑mapped color dynamics
- Chauvet COLORado PXL Bar 16 battens for smooth, multicolor washes
- ETC Source 4 LUSTR 3 profiles for theatrical specials and key light
- ETC Gio console for seamless programming and playback
- MDG ATMe & Look Solutions Unique 2.1 hazers for consistent aerial texture
- Full cable, power distro, and rigging support
Behind the Scenes
Working under blue‑hour skies and into the evening, our East team ensured every fixture was prepped, weather‑protected, and precisely aimed, delivering reliable performance across two sold‑out nights.
“Travis and the Main Light team made the process of building the rig seamless. The Robe Ifortes were the perfect fixture to create the visual world. Lights are just lights – it's the quality and service behind them that make the difference, and the Main Light team went above and beyond to make this production happen."— Drew Billiau, Lighting Designer
Main Light East congratulates BalletX on a triumphant premiere and looks forward to powering future productions, rain or shine, at The Mann and beyond!
